A Tie?! Come On! But Man, Ohtani's Double Was Incredible
Dodgers vs. Angels, 7-7 tie. Ohtani got jammed in his first at-bat, but his double in the 3rd was pure class. I went through 3 beers watching this one.
Highlights
- Ohtani's double in the 3rd: 110.9 mph / 379 ft liner that overwhelmed the Angels defense
- Teoscar Hernandez and Miguel Rojas hit back-to-back homers to spark the comeback
- Down 0-6 to leading 7-6 before settling for a 7-7 tie — what a rollercoaster
1st Inning: Bad Vibes Right Away
Right from the start, it looked like the Angels were gonna jump all over us. Soler, Moncada, Lowe — they all got on base one after another, and we're down 0-1, 0-2, just getting picked apart. I was like "oh man, here we go again with this pattern," took a sip of beer and tried to breathe. We managed to get out of it for a sec, but then...
1st Inning: Ohtani, Seriously?!
Then comes Ohtani's first at-bat. 74.8 mph, 5-foot grounder — dude, just looking at those numbers you can tell he got totally jammed. Detmers broke him down with a slider, couldn't even get any exit velo on it. "Come on Shohei, you can't be doing that in the first at-bat!" I literally yelled at my screen. Being down 0-4 and seeing that... honestly it was rough.
4th Inning Collapse: That Was Painful to Watch
When Schanuel and Soler hit back-to-back sac flies to make it 0-5, I'd honestly pretty much given up on the game. "Today ain't our day," I thought, and almost changed the channel. But I didn't — and thank god for that.
After that, Teoscar gets a hit, then Rojas launches a homer. Coming back from 1-6 to take a 7-6 lead — Dodgers are way too dramatic, man. Teo's homer went sailing into the stands and I couldn't help screaming "THAT'S what I'm talking about!"
3rd Inning Ohtani Double: THIS Was Today's Highlight
But the moment I screamed the loudest? Gotta be this one. Ohtani's double in the bottom of the 3rd. 110.9 mph (about 178 km/h), 379 feet (about 115 meters), an absolute liner.
Second slider, I think — he just crushed it deep into left. The second it left the bat I was like "is that gone?!" It didn't go out, but still, 110+ mph liner?! Completely different guy from the first at-bat when he got jammed. That's Shohei for you, nothing else to say.
The Ending: A Tie... Mixed Feelings
Dalton Rushing was playing way too good for a spring training game, but in the top of the 8th Lowe hit a go-ahead single to make it 4-7. Then Cole's double tied it up at 7-7 and that's how it ended.
I really wanted the W, not gonna lie, but honestly I didn't expect a game this wild, so pure entertainment value? 10 out of 10. We got Ohtani's double, Teo and Rojas went yard, so overall a solid showing I'd say.
Next time we're taking the win for sure. I wanna see Ohtani go deep.
