In today's start against Arizona, Yamamoto turned in one of his roughest outings of the year, allowing six earned runs on five hits over six innings while striking out six and walking four. Set against a 9-6 record, a 2.85 ERA, and a 0.91 WHIP across 17 starts this season, tonight's game ERA of 9.00 makes clear just how far this performance sat below his usual baseline.

The pitch data explains a lot. His splitter was the most-used offering at 31 pitches (30% of the total) and the only pitch that generated real swing-and-miss, drawing six whiffs for roughly a 19% whiff rate. His four-seam fastball, however, was thrown 25 times at a healthy 60% strike rate yet produced zero whiffs, and his sinker — 15 pitches, a strong 73% strike rate — also came up empty on whiffs.
