Shohei Reaches Base Twice! Offense Explodes for a Huge Night
Ohtani reached base twice in six plate appearances, including an intentional walk for three times on base total — solid work. The lineup detonated for 13 hits and 12 runs to crush the Rockies. Muncy went deep twice, and Rushing also had a massive multi-homer performance in a dominant win.
Highlights
- Shohei ripped a 100.7 mph liner to center in the 3rd for a multi-on-base night
- Muncy and Rushing both went deep twice — offense absolutely erupted
- Shohei was intentionally walked in the 6th as the opponent completely refused to challenge him
Man, the Dodgers' offense just would not stop tonight, start to finish
First, top of the 1st, Shohei's first at-bat. Full count, 7th pitch, he grinds and grinds and hits a scorcher to third. Reached on an error, but the exit velocity was 91.6 mph — he squared it up. Lucky lucky, a runner's a runner! Honestly, even without the error, it was hot enough it might've been an infield single anyway.
Muncy and Rohas went back-to-back to flip the game
When Doyle hit that RBI in the bottom of the 1st to put them on the board first, I was like "oh no here we go"... but then top of the 2nd. Muncy hits a game-tying homer, and RIGHT after that Rohas follows up with a shot to the batter's eye! Wait, no way, Rohas hitting a bomb?! That was the moment I knew — this one's in the bag. Cracked my second beer right there.
Shohei in the 3rd was absolutely filthy again
Two outs, runners on first and third, Shohei's 2nd AB. Full count, stays on a changeup and shoots a liner to center! Exit velocity 100.7 mph, caught it flush on the barrel. Kept the inning alive, and we tacked on more runs between Smith's fielder's choice and Teo's double play — suddenly it's 4-1. When Shohei gets on, the momentum just shifts, man. Every time.
4th inning: they straight up refused to pitch to Shohei
Bottom of the 4th, huge chance with runners on second and third, he pulled a grounder. Ugh, negative launch angle, rolled it over. But top of the 6th — two outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd, intentional walk. Yeah, of course. Nobody in their right mind is pitching to Shohei there. And in the 8th, Gordon bounced fastball, slider, curve — nothing close — for a basically-intentional walk. They're scared of him, flat out.
The 8th and 9th inning explosion — all you can do is laugh
Rushing homer in the 8th, then in the 9th Muncy goes yard for his SECOND and Rushing hits his SECOND too! Two guys with multi-homer games?! What is that?! Rushing especially — is this dude straight-up breaking out or what? Shohei's last AB ended in a swinging K on a 93.8 mph fastball, but hey, it's 12-2, you can't blame anyone for losing focus. He did his job with multi-times on base — good night, let's get the next one!
Total beatdown, bottom line
12-3 blowout, lineup exploded for 13 hits and 12 runs. Shohei had 1 hit and 3 walks/HBP for three times on base — solid. These easy games are the best, beer tastes amazing as a fan, doesn't get better. Let's keep this energy rolling tomorrow!
