Three hits at St. Louis signal Suzuki is climbing out of a deep slump

Suzuki went 3-for-4 on the road in St. Louis, and the most important takeaway here is not the gaudy .750 line for the day but the inflection point it may represent. After a brutal stretch, this looks like the moment his bat finally came back to life.

For context, his season marks sit at a .252 average and a .747 OPS, so today is clearly an outlier in the positive direction. What matters more is the trend underneath it. Looking back at his last ten games, the run from May 20 through May 27 was genuinely ugly: seven straight contests without a hit, a textbook deep slump. Then came a 2-for-5 against Pittsburgh on May 29, followed by today's three-hit effort. In other words, his timing has snapped back over just the last two games. His platoon splits are worth flagging as well. This season he is hitting .282 with a .789 OPS against left-handers versus .242 and a .732 OPS against righties, so he is meaningfully more productive facing southpaws. That suggests his recent funk was at least partly a function of running into a wave of right-handed starters.
